On Wednesday, March 13, the United Kingdom Parliament voted against exiting the European Union without having a withdrawal deal in place.

Turning towards the next vote on Thursday, March 14, the UK Parliament will vote as to whether or not to request an extension of the mandatory two-year negotiation period, which is set to end on Brexit Day, March 29. If this measure passes, then the EU and all of its member nations will need to approve the request for an extension unanimously.

It is not certain what will occur should the EU reject a potential extension request. Potential options could be that Prime Minister Theresa May is coerced to hold a second referendum on Brexit or that another negotiated deal is brought forth to Parliament to avoid a no-deal exit.

Aires will continue to monitor the developing Brexit news.
