Immigration Spotlight – Netherlands

We are pleased to continue our series examining country immigration requirements with a focus on Netherlands this month. In this post, we cover the key requirements for obtaining a Highly Skilled Migrant Worker (Work and Residence Permit).

General Process

Timeline

Pre-arrival: 1-3 months

Post-arrival: 1-2 days

Primary Employee Documents

·        Passport

·        Birth Certificate

·        Photograph

·        Proof of address

 

 

Primary Employer Documents

·        Power of attorney

·        Employment contract

·        Appointment confirmation letter

·        Automatic direct debit deposit form

·        Assignment letter

 

 

Validity

The work and residence permits are generally issued for up to a 5-year duration.

Deregistration

Work and residence permits must be formally cancelled prior to the employee’s final departure from the Netherlands. The Dutch residence permits must be returned via mail upon arrival in the home country.

Red Flags and Special Criteria

  • All documentation must be presented in Dutch, English, German, or French or with a certified translation
  • Legalized documents may be required
  • Salary thresholds enforced
  • No degree or experience requirements
