With normal work practices disrupted for the foreseeable future, many of us have turned to music for help through our daily routines. Whether a virtual concert on a Friday evening, a perfectly curated collaborative playlist with friends and family from afar, or just tuning into the radio – music has a powerful impact on its listeners. While a good tune can be the perfect daily accompaniment, it also has an awesome impact on our minds, stress, and even sleep! What else does music lead to? Dancing! In your chair or next to your work station – static movement can help us work out some of our physical stressors and “reset” ourselves. The best part of dancing it out at home – your skill level doesn’t matter. Your pets and kids won’t judge you (too much).
We decided to think of some inspiring songs that help us out while we’re working or relaxing after work. We polled our LinkedIn subscribers with four songs that help us stay motivated. We’ve talked about some of these below and also listed some of our other favorites. What are yours? Let us know in the comments!
Can’t Stop the Feeling! – Justin Timberlake: Coming in at number one on our LinkedIn poll, JT has been keeping us entertained from his boy band days until now. This fun beat certainly gets that good feeling flowing through us, sunshine in our pockets and all!
Don’t Stop – Fleetwood Mac: A good reminder to keep focusing on the present and let go of the past. This upbeat tune has us shoulder shimmying in our seats while we meet our deliverables.
Sunny – Bobby Hebb: Short and sweet, this song keeps reminding us that while it might have been a bad day today or yesterday, good ones are always on the horizon and worth the wait.
Treat People with Kindness – Harry Styles: Treating people with kindness never goes out of style and neither does this awesome chorus! We love a song with a good message and an infectious beat.
Put Your Records On – Corinne Bailey Rae: Close your eyes and listen to this beautiful song. Imagine a warm summer day with the sound of children playing and birds chirping through your open window. Pretty good, right? We thought so, too. This one reminds us to enjoy the little things and find joy in every day.
Happy – Pharrell Williams: We dare you to listen to this song and not feel a little bit better and ready to tackle what comes your way. “Happy” is one of those rare songs that just never seems to get old, even when it won’t get out of your head.
Walkin’ on Sunshine – Katrina and the Waves: It’s never really clear if Jack Black’s character in the movie “High Fidelity” sincerely loves this song or if he just put it on his morning playlist to annoy his co-workers. But it’s hard to imagine not feeling more energized and ready to tackle the day after blasting this upbeat classic.
Lovely Day – Bill Withers: There’s no better way to get ready to tackle the day than a reminder that the good parts of your life make the day lovely, no matter what else comes your way.
I Got You (I Feel Good) – James Brown: James Brown was the master of making you get up and going. There’s perhaps no better reminder to enjoy feeling good than listening to the sincerity in Brown’s voice on this song.
The Dog Days are Over – Florence + The Machine: Known for anthems that could shake a stadium, most of Florence Welch’s songs could have been chosen for their motivational abilities. But this one just wakes you up and reminds you to put the tough times behind you and keep going.
